Heidi Watney, born May 19 1981, is an American sportscaster and a reporter on Apple TV+. She graduated from the University of San Diego and has worked as a sportscaster at various stations including Time Warner Cable SportsNet, New England Sports Network in Boston, Time Warner Cable SportsNet Los Angeles, and two stations in Fresno. Watney was a Clovis West High School student in Fresno. She played gymnastics in hurdles, diving, and gymnastics. One of her achievements was being an National Merit Scholar. She went to the University of San Diego with an academic scholarship. In 2003, she graduated with high marks. Watney was a contestant in Miss California USA 2002, where she was the first in the runner-up category. Watney is the cousin professional golfer Nick Watney. The author Andy Weir stated he used Watney's name for the character "Mark Watney" in his 2011 science fiction novel The Martian after hearing her name on a Red Sox game broadcast.
